The film echoes the basic plot of the novel, though the excellence of setting and mise-en-scène in high-caliber film-making transcends mere entertainment. Yoo Man-su as a foreman of Taeyang Paper Mill opposes the company’s policy of a large-scale layoffs due to restructuring defending workers’ right to survival. According to the Theory of Ten Stars in Myeongrihak, the main character lives the Life of Companion and Resource Stars that emphasizes the interconnectedness and interdependence between human beings and community. After being dismissed by the company, however, the protagonist exerts to get a job to survive and support his family murdering potential rivals and the person who he desires. His life stands for the Life of Rob Wealth and Unconventional Resource Stars that reflects competitive, egoistic, sneaky, and action-oriented psychologies. The film portrays the transformation of capitalist human being in the digital technology society.
