This study examines the narrative structure and literariness of the Seven Parables in the Lotus Sūtra through A. J. Greimas’s actantial model. Rather than treating each parable separately or focusing primarily on doctrinal meaning, this paper approaches them as a unified narrative system governed by a shared structural grammar. The analysis identifies a recurring transformative sequence structured around a state of lack, intervention through expedient means, cognitive recognition, and the reconfiguration of value. Particular attention is given to strategies of deferred value and concealed truth that shape readers’ expectations and generate staged moments of recognition. Through repetition and variation of this structural pattern, the Seven Parables emerge as carefully composed narratives that transform religious teaching into organized narrative events marked by tension, delay, and revelation. This study thus repositions the Lotus Sūtra as both a religious scripture and a literary work shaped by coherent narrative design.

본 논문은 􋺷법화경􋺸 법화칠유를 하나의 통합된 서사 체계로 파악하고, 그 서 사 구조와 문학적 조직 원리를 규명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 기존 연구가 개별 비유의 교리적 의미나 응용적 해석에 집중해 온 것과 달리, 본고는 A. J. 그레마 스의 행동자 모델을 분석 틀로 삼아 일곱 비유에 공통적으로 작동하는 구조적 문법을 탐색한다. 분석 결과, 법화칠유는 결핍의 설정, 방편의 개입, 인식의 전 환, 가치와의 재결속이라는 변형의 과정을 반복적으로 구성하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 화성의 비유를 비롯한 여러 비유는 가치의 지연과 진리의 은폐 라는 장치를 통해 독자의 기대를 단계적으로 조정하며, 인식의 이동을 서사적으 로 경험하게 한다. 이러한 반복과 변주의 구조 속에서 법화칠유는 교리를 설명 하는 예화의 차원을 넘어, 긴장과 전환, 폭로의 리듬을 갖춘 서사적 구성물로 기 능한다. 본 연구는 법화칠유를 통해 􋺷법화경􋺸이 종교적 경전이자 정교한 서사 설계를 지닌 문학 텍스트임을 재조명하고자 한다.
