This article is a study for the manuscript Jeongsan Ilgi(diary). Do-gi Lee (1743-1798) is a martyr of the Roman Catholic persuasion during the Jeongsa Catholic Persecutions, which lived in Jeongsan, Chungcheongdo. Jeongsan Ilgi(diary) was one of the religious works which tried to preserve the faith of a nameless martyr and to keep the Jeongsa Catholic Persecutions with the arrival of the Catholic Church community. Jeongsan Ilgi was composed of events from June, 1797 to June, 1798. Especially, Jeongsan Ilgi showed the way that a nameless layperson also could be a leader of the Catholic Church, an apostle and a saint of the heaven, narrating how a layperson of the Catholic Church in one village, Jeongsan, became a martyr. Jeongsan Ilgi could be a literary work that glamorized martyrdom artistically and contained Catholic faith and values through reviewing Do-gi Lee’s life. Jeongsan Ilgi has to be recorded in the history of Korean literature as one of the Catholic Martyrs’ diaries among the diary literature of the Chosen period.

본고는 한국교회사연구소 소장본인 필사본 『정산일기』에 대한 연구이다. 이도기(1743-1798)는 충청도 정산 지역에서 살다 정사박해로 순교한 천주교인이다. 『정산일기』는 정산의 천주교 교우촌의 등장과 함께 지역의 박해였던 정사박해를 배경으로 무명 순교자들의 신앙을 보존하고 이어가고자 한 종교 문학의 하나였다. 『정산일기』는 그가 옥에 갇혀 순교하기까지 1797년 6월부터 1798년 6월 12일까지의 사건을 중심으로 구성되었다. 특히 『정산일기』는 정산 지역의 평민 천주교인이 순교자가 되는 과정을 서사화함으로써 무명의 평신도도 천주교의 지도자, 예수의 사도, 하늘의 성인이 될 수 있는 길을 보여 준 작품이기도 하다. 또한 일기의 형식을 취함으로써 사실의 진실성을 강조하고, 대화체를 통해 이도기의 신앙을 효과적으로 드러냈다. 고난을 피하지 않고 대면하고, 고난을 의미화하며, 예수의 십자가를 자신의 삶으로 투영한 이도기를 통해 『정산일기』는 순교를 예술적으로 미화하고 천주교의 신앙 가치를 담은 문학 작품으로 남을 수 있었다. 동시에 『정산일기』는 조선시대 일기문학 중 천주교 순교일기의 하나로 한국문학사에서 기술되어야 한다.
