이승우의 『지상의 노래』에 나타난 압살롬 이야기의 문학적 수용
이승우는 신과 인간의 관계, 인간의 구원과 초월, 인간의 내면적 욕망과 운명, 그리고 권력의 문제를 기독교적 세계관 속에서 천착해 왔지만, 교리적이거나 기독교 변증적인 태도를 취하지 않는다. 오히려 그는 감추기 위해 드러내고,드러내기 위해 감추는 기법을 전략적으로 구사한다. 그러나 지상의 노래 에서는 보다 직접적으로 성서의 이야기를 문학적으로 수용하여 초월과 구원, 인간의욕망과 운명, 그리고 권력의 문제를 다루고 있다. 주인공 후의 사촌 누나 연희는 박 중위의 일방적인 욕망의 대상이 되어 희생당하고 후는 박 중위를 죽이려하지만 자기 자신도 연희 누나에 대한 성적 욕망을 가지고 있음을 깨닫게 된다.후와 연희는 압살롬과 다말에 대비되고, 박 중위는 암논에 대비된다. 후는 나중에 정보기관 고위직에 있는 사람의 부인인 ‘사모님’과 성행위를 하면서 연희누나를 떠올린다. 그 순간 ‘사모님’은 곧 연희 누나이다. 따라서 후는 자기 안에암논이 들어 있음을 깨닫고 고통스러워한다. 이 작품의 중요한 공간적 배경인천산 수도원은 알렉산드리아 파로스 섬에 있었던 70인역 유대 번역공동체를,천산 수도원의 일흔두 개의 방은 곧 유대번역가 일흔두 명이 사용했던 동굴방을 떠올린다. 이 작품은 성서 이야기를 수용하여 구성된 작품이라 할 수 있다.
A Literary Reception of the Narrative of Absalom in LEE Seung-Woo’s The Song of the Earth.

Abstract
LEE Seung-Woo’s literary world is based on Christian world view. Heuniquely uses the literary technic of ‘reveal and concealment’ in his severalnovels. However, he is far more direct in The Song of the Earth. He shows aliterary reception of the biblical narrative of Absalom, Tamar and Amnon in theHebrew Bible(2 Sam. 13). Absalom’s naming of daughter as ‘Tmar’ means that heloves Tamar. Absalom has a latent sexual desire towards his sister Tamar whowas raped by her half brother Amnon. Similarly the protagonist ‘Huh’ tries to killLieutenant Park who raped his cousin ‘Yonhee’ on the father’s side. Herecognizes himself as Absalom who takes revenge for his half brother Amnon’srape of Tamar. Yet he himself has a hidden sexual desire towards his cousin. Indoing sexual intercourse with the high ranking intelligence agent’s wife,“samonim” in Korean, he identifies “samonim” with “Yonhee”. For this reason, atlast he recognizes himself as Amnon in sinful feeling.
